The truth about our postage charges

The truth about our postage charges

We occasionally hear from customers who wonder why postage costs what it does. It is a fair question, and we thought it was worth explaining simply.

The short answer is this: we do not mark postage up and we do not make money from it.

Australia Post charges by parcel size and weight, not by distance, so a parcel from us to Hobart costs us what it costs to send the same parcel to Perth. Unlike large national retailers sending thousands of parcels every day, we do not have access to heavily discounted freight contracts, so we pay much the same rates any small business would pay.

Our current postage charges

Standard Post anywhere in Australia: $14 up to 5kg
Express Post anywhere in Australia: $18 up to 5kg

No tiers, no thresholds, no fine print.

Making the most of your postage

The good news is that the $14 flat rate buys you a lot more than one or two items.

Our standard medium box comfortably holds around eight jars of preserves plus two boxes of our large boxes of shortbread, all for the same $14 postage. The more you fit in, the better value the postage becomes per item.

If your order outgrows our standard box, we move you up to our large box at no extra cost. As long as the total stays under 5kg, you still pay $14. We absorb the upgrade.

So, if you are going to pay postage, fill the box. Many of our regular customers now order every few months rather than every few weeks for exactly this reason. Sharing an order with friends or family is another option — one parcel, one postage, split however it suits you.

For heavier orders over 5kg, the checkout will calculate the additional postage based on weight, which is $10.00 per extra kg, but for most orders the flat rate is all you will need.
