The Tasmanian pepperberry (Tasmannia lanceolata) is a native shrub that grows across the state, from cool mountain gullies to backyard gardens throughout southern Tasmania. Hand harvested and carefully processed by Diemen Pepper, a family operation in the D'Entrecasteaux Channel region south of Hobart, these berries are warm-air dried and precision-ground to preserve their bold, distinctive character. Diemen Pepper has been doing this since 1994.

Part of Our Story

Diemen Pepper is based at Five Bob Farm in Birchs Bay, a local Tasmanian farm we've built a genuine friendship and working relationship with over the years. We source this pepperberry directly from them, and it's the very same ingredient we use in our own Green Tomato + Pepperberry Pickle. Beyond the pepperberry, we also buy other ingredients grown right there on the farm to use across a number of our products.

For us, knowing exactly where an ingredient comes from, and the people behind it, matters. Five Bob Farm is one of those relationships we're proud to talk about, and proud to support.

Flavour Profile

Expect a slow-building, aromatic heat with earthy, slightly fruity undertones. Tasmanian pepperberries carry a distinctive spice that starts warm and lingers, more nuanced than black pepper, with a character all their own.
