Oatcakes, the traditional Scottish way
There are oatcakes, and then there are these.
Why these are different
- Made with butter, not oil – the traditional Scottish method
- Just three ingredients, nothing unnecessary
- Handmade in small batches in Tasmania
- No wheat flour, no added sugar, no additives
- A true savoury oatcake, as it should be
The real thing
Handmade at Cackleberry Farm in Southern Tasmania, these oatcakes are based on a generations-old family recipe and made exactly as they would be in Scotland. Just Australian oats, Tasmanian butter from grass-fed cows, and sea salt.
No shortcuts. No modern substitutions
Most oatcakes available in Australia are either factory-made or use oil in place of butter. Ours are made the traditional way, and as far as we know, they are the only ones in Australia still made like this. It is a simple thing, done properly, and that simplicity is everything.
How to enjoy them
With a good cheese board, they come into their own. Spread with butter and a drizzle of honey, serve alongside a sharp cheddar with a touch of marmalade, or simply enjoy them straight from the pack with a cup of tea. There is no wrong way.
Ingredients
Australian oats (82%), Tasmanian butter from grass-fed cows, sea salt, filtered rainwater.
